About the Series
How much thought have you given to the death penalty?
Did you know that in 2007 the American Bar Association found that Ohio’s death penalty system failed in 93% of its established protocols for a fair and accurate system?
Did you know Ohio has come close to executing an innocent man six times?
Do you know how the death penalty affects the families of the victims?
Have you considered that Jesus was executed?
Christ Church Cathedral will take advantage of this season of Lent to expand its serial offerings while exploring two approaches to its well-established Community Issues Forums. Along with a Wednesday Evening Series during Lent, the cathedral will host a special Community Issues Forum series in partnership with the Ohioans to Stop Executions (OTSE) and the Intercommunity Justice and Peace Center (IJPC). The series will feature discussions on the death penalty in Ohio, its enforcement, consequences, wrongful convictions, victims, possible reform and a religious reflection on the execution of citizens by the government. As preparation for the presentations of this series, Sub-Dean Manoj Zacharia will preach on capital punishment on March 9.
If you feel so compelled, you’ll have an opportunity at each forum to take action by asking Governor Kasich to grant clemency to Arthur Tyler. Mr. Tyler is scheduled for execution on May 28, 2014 despite grave doubt about whether he was the triggerman.
All are welcome.
