Dear OTSE Supporter,
I could spend all day updating you on all the death penalty developments of the past few weeks. I’d like to draw your attention to just three things.
But first, I’m excited to tell you a fellow Ohioan to Stop Executions has offered to match every donation received until we raise $5,000! Please double your dollars today with a tax-deductible investment here. Thank you!
OTSE posts news items and other resources on our Twitter and Facebook feeds almost every day. Here are three things I want to point out:
- The Columbus Dispatch has editorialized again questioning the death penalty. I sent a letter to the editor that you can read here.
- Tomorrow our nation celebrates Veterans Day, honoring the service of so many. Did you know that roughly 10% of all death row inmates in the United States are veterans? Today, the Death Penalty Information Center issued a ground-breaking new report calling for greater scrutiny when using the death penalty against veterans with PTSD and other mental disabilities stemming from their service.
- And now it can finally be said out loud: There is a national strategy to abolish the death penalty. OTSE Consultant Abe Bonowitz and I have been helping to shape it for years, and together with YOU, all Ohioans to Stop Executions have been doing our part to move the strategy forward. Read all about it here, and know that just about everything OTSE does is by design, with this strategy in mind.
There’s much more to share, and I’ll write again soon. For now, check out the three items above. Remember, you can double your impact with this new matching gift campaign by investing today in the future and a death penalty-free Ohio.
Thank you,
Kevin Werner
Executive Director
PS: The matching gift campaign also applies to the OTSE Sustainer Program. You can make an automatic monthly credit card donation of $10, $25, $50 or some other amount that makes sense for you. Click here to sign up today!
